1st Young Environmental Scientists Meeting (YES- Meeting) |
|
"New challenges in Environmental Sciences."
The YES-meeting was the first international scientific meeting exclusively organised and conducted by and for students (PhD students, MSc & BSc during their thesis) in environmental sciences. It has been arranged by the Student Advisory Council (SAC) of SETAC Europe and took place between 16th and 18th of March 2009 at the University Koblenz-Landau, Landau campus. No conference fees were charged and travel grants were given to all students selected for presenting their work as a poster or a platform presentation. Low budget accommodations were also organised. The Young Environmental Scientists (YES) Meeting in Landau was entitled „New challenges in Environmental Sciences” and has been designed to address some major student needs: Besides platform and poster presentations there was a workshop given by Michael C. Newman (Virginia Institute of Marine Sciences) focusing on how to prepare an excellent publication. Additionally three careers talks from established scientists representing academia, regulatory agencies and industry gave an insight into different fields of work on a day to day basis. Furthermore, a Job Corner gave students the opportunity to meet with prospective employers.
